At Central Coast College, our goal is to provide the training programs students need in order to be prepared for the jobs that are in high demand in their communities. Ultrasound technicians are in high demand in today’s healthcare marketplace, and in 2019 there were 131,700 individuals employed in these positions nationwide. This field is growing at a rate of 12% (much faster than average), and there are projected to be an additional 15,600 more jobs added to this field over the 2019 – 2029 decade (BLS 2021). To help meet the rising need for these healthcare professionals, Central Coast College has added Ultrasound Technology diploma and degree programs.
Also known as digital medical sonography, ultrasound technology is used in healthcare to produce images of internal organs, soft tissue, and blood vessels, as well as to observe developing fetuses in the womb. Ultrasounds use sound waves, which makes it a less expensive diagnostic method than other imaging techniques, such as MRI or CT scans. As a result, ultrasound is often the preferred, first-option exam. Because ultrasound technology is non-invasive and does not use radiation, it is perfectly safe and harmless in trained hands. At CCC, our Ultrasound Technician training programs prepare students for this rewarding career in less than two years.
At Central Coast College, the Ultrasound Technician program is designed to prepare students for immediate entry-level positions in the field. Students learn critical theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills through a combination of coursework, clinical labs, and an externship. Under the guidance of skilled faculty, CCC students learn to use specialized equipment. Courses in the Ultrasound Technician program include:
- Medical Terminology
- Anatomy, Physiology and Physics
- Ultrasound Laboratory
- Abdomen, OBGYN and Vascular
- Externship
Upon completion of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion, Ultrasound Technology diploma, and are prepared for immediate entry-level employment. Graduates of the UT diploma program may choose to continue their education and training by pursuing an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students who enroll in the AAS Ultrasound Technology program complete additional General Education courses for a total program length of 108 weeks. The UT AAS program enables students to develop enhanced critical thinking skills, greater scientific knowledge, and quality verbal/written communication skills, becoming more well rounded professionals and more qualified job candidates.
Central Coast College is licensed by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) and is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET).
