At Central Coast College Gilroy, our Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare students to work in essential positions in the field of healthcare. Medical Assistants are critical allied healthcare workers, performing important administrative and clinical duties in the offices of doctors, medical clinics, and hospitals.
Our 46-week program provides students with intensive training emphasizing medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology; diagnostic and treatment procedures, and medical office procedures and insurance billing. Students also receive real-world on-the-job experience through an Externship.
In the Medical Assistant program, you’ll learn:
- Medical Terminology
- Medical Office Procedures
- Medical Records Keeping and Electronic Medical Records
- Patient Vital Signs
- Venipuncture and Injections
- Use of Laboratory equipment, including centrifuges and autoclaves
- Use of Electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment
Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are prepared for careers in positions that may include:
- Medical Assistant
- Medical Records and Health Information Technician
- Medical Secretary
- Reception and Information Clerk
