Home Health Aide
Prospective students interested in an avocational program must provide documentation of employment in a health related field. Avocational programs are designed for prospective students seeking professional development and enhancement, as defined by our accreditor, The Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET).
The two-week (40 hour) Home Health Aide course allows Certified Nursing Assistants to provide services to patients in a home setting. Following course completion, which includes 20 hours of theory and 20 hours of hands-on clinical training, participants will be eligible for state certification.
The major role of Home Health Aides is to enable people to remain comfortably in their homes by assisting them with their daily activities and healthcare-related tasks such as:
- Maintaining accurate patient health records
- Monitoring and recording patients’ vital signs
- Minor housekeeping tasks
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of home health aides is expected to grow 20 percent between 2010 and 2020, which is faster than most U.S. occupations. As the U.S. population continues to age, demand for the profession will continue to grow.
