CCC Vocational Nursing Student Wins CAPPS Scholarship Award!

Congratulations Zyanya Moran, for winning a CAPPS scholarship! Zyanya, a Vocational Nursing student at Central Coast College (CCC), has been selected as a 2024 recipient of California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) scholarship. Central Coast College specializes in training students for in-demand healthcare careers, and we are proud of Zyanya, as well as all of our hardworking students. The California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) Memorial Scholarship program provides scholarship awards to students attending private post-secondary Institutions in California to support them on their higher education journey. Since the mid-2000’s, the California Foundation for Private & Postsecondary Schools has given scholarships established in the name of individuals that played a significant role in California’s private post-secondary educational sector. Scholarships are intended to support students as they work to achieve their dreams.

As the recipient of a CAPPS Scholarship, a celebratory ceremony was given in Zyanya’s honor. At the ceremony, Zyanya received a HUGE oversized check in the scholarship amount of $5,000. The scholarship money will support Zyanya on her path towards becoming a Vocational Nurse.

Zyanya is a Vocational Nursing student at Central Coast College in Salinas, California. The Vocational Nursing program at Central Coast College is a 59-week program designed to teach students the basic skills and essential functions of vocational nursing in order to prepare them for careers as vocational nurses (VNs).

Learning from dedicated, experienced instructors, students in the Vocational Nursing program learn how to:

  • Provide basic nursing care
  • Administer medications
  • Document a patient’s signs and symptoms
  • Perform therapeutic and rehabilitative measures

The Vocational Nursing program is designed to be completed in as few as 59 weeks. Students in the VN program complete hands-on training in on-campus labs, and every VN student also completes an externship with an off-campus community partner. in labs as well as an externship in an off-site medical facility in order to gain critical real-world experience. By combining academic study with clinical practice, students gain both theoretical knowledge as well as hands-on experience, so they are prepared to transition confidently into their future positions.

The VN program at Central Coast College is approved by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians. Upon completion of the VN program, graduates will have met the minimum requirements for taking the Vocational Nurse License examination.
