Monterey Veterinary Assistant

At Central Coast College, our Veterinary Assistant program gives you hands-on experience working with animals to prepare you for the job you’ve always wanted. Our 38-week curriculum will give you the comprehensive set of skills and knowledge necessary to successfully work alongside veterinarians and veterinary technicians in a variety of animal care settings.

In the Veterinary Assistant program in Monterey, you will gain hands on skills to assist with veterinary animal care tasks and pet owner education.

Within the Veterinary Assistant program you will focus on:

      • Proper restraining techniques
      • Assisting with radiology and ultrasound imaging
      • Maintaining and sterilizing equipment and facilities
      • Administering some medications and immunizations
      • Grooming procedures
      • Maintaining medical records and taking patient history

Classes will be a combination of lecture, demonstration, guided practice, lab and clinical hours. An externship will be provided at the end of the program, along with a professional development class to assist you in finding employment. Once you have received your diploma, you will be prepared to go into the rewarding field of animal care.

The Veterinary Assistant program offers first year curriculum for the Associates of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology and upon satisfactory completion will qualify students for the second year Veterinary Technology program.
