How often do students meet with the Career Services Team?

We have an open-door policy in Career Services here at CCC. If we are in, we are available, but students are welcome to make an appointment with us. We also go into classes and discuss workplace topics and employer expectations on a regular basis.

What happens during a typical meeting with the Career Services Team?

It can vary, but sometimes students want to discuss where they want to do their externship, or they were not hired and need a job, so we discuss job openings, interviewing, and soft skills and why they think they are not being hired. Sometimes we discuss work study or even how their programs are going and if they need a tutor or additional help with academics. Personal hygiene, nails, piercings, and tattoos are often on the list of topics.

How does Career Services help me with my resume?

We use a questionnaire to draw up a basic resume by plugging your information into our template. When you complete an externship, we help you update your resume and add your externship site’s information. We keep an electronic copy of everyone’s resume for quite a few years so we can help keep it updated even if you graduated a couple years ago.

Do you provide mock interviews to help practice interview questions and answers?

All of our students do a week-long class that prepares them for externships and real-world experience. During that week we complete resumes, practice interviews, discuss employer and extern expectations and complete DISC activities, HABES, etc. On the last day of that class, they complete a mock interview with the Career and Student Services staff.

What is an Externship?

An Externship is completed as the student’s last class, which is why it is called an externship and not an internship. Internships take place during the academic portion of a program to gain experience while still in school. Our externships are designed to give students an opportunity of possible immediate employment when completed.

How does the Career Services team match me with the right externship site?

Our team will send out a questionnaire the week before the student is set to start their externship and ask them about where they see themselves and their preferences. We try our best to get them somewhere they are interested in, but ask them to be open minded about options.

How does the Career Services team help me with Employment?

We have an extensive network of medical practices and businesses that we are always adding to. When students do not get picked up from their externship or come back to us after a break from employment, we help them update their resumes and interviewing skills and connect them to companies we know have openings. We even make calls and set up interviews for them.

Central Coast College is committed to assisting our program graduates in the pursuit of stable, rewarding employment, and the Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services, including resume writing assistance, job searching and networking, interviewing skills, and comprehensive job placement assistance. While the school cannot guarantee employment upon graduation, CCC instructors and Career Services staff consistently seek to assist students with employment opportunities prior to and after graduation. At CCC we are committed to offering both a quality educational experience, and individualized job placement assistance, so graduates can utilize the knowledge and skills they have gained to successfully enter their chosen career fields.
