5 Fears that Might be Keeping You from Going Back to School
Going back to school as an adult can have its own unique set of challenges. We understand that a lot of people want to further their education or advance their career, but might have a few stumbling blocks to overcome first. Here are five fears that you might be facing, and how you can move past these fears to pursue your dreams:
1 – I don’t have any experience in that field
Experience does count for a lot out in the work world, but that’s what the education is for. If you have a degree or a certification in a certain industry, that in and of itself is a level of experience. If you love helping people to feel better and live stronger, but you don’t know the first thing about anything in the medical field, that’s okay. Start with the basics, like Medical Assisting. That’s what training programs are for.
2 – I don’t have the money
Like many schools, Central Coast College offers financial aid programs to those who qualify. There are many different options available such as loans, work study programs, and grants. Go to our website and click on the Financial Aid tab for a list of those programs and links to where you apply. We can help you find the financial aid programs for which you qualify and help you select those that best suits your needs.
3 – I don’t have the time
Everyone is busy. We understand that you have a life, a job, kids, and the list goes on. It’s true that going back to school will require a major change to your priorities and your daily schedule. It takes work, discipline, and time management to add class time and study time to your life. But countless students have faced the same struggle and gone on to succeed, so be encouraged that you can do it, too. Also, Central Coast College offers classes on many different schedules – day, afternoon and evening classes, two-week programs and one-year programs, and more.
4 – I’m too old
The desire to learn and grow is a human trait that has nothing to do with age. We don’t have an age limit here at Central Coast College – we’re just looking for people who want to work hard and learn. Even if your peers or the younger generation are telling you that you’re past your prime, just remember that it’s never too late to start a new career. We once had a student who was 78 years old, and our oldest graduate was 68 when she started her program. It is the desire to learn and keep improving yourself that matters most.
5 – I never graduated high school
If you never graduated from high school, don’t let embarrassment keep you from pursuing more in your life. A GED can qualify you for many of the same programs that a high school diploma can. If you don’t have a diploma or a GED, don’t let that stop you from contacting one of our Admissions Advisors.
