At Central Coast College, our Nursing Assistant program is designed to prepare students to work in this important healthcare position. Nursing Assistants are employed by extended-care facilities, hospitals, home health care agencies, and by individuals who want extra help when they are in the healthcare facility or in their own home. Nursing Assistants work closely with patients, providing basic care and assisting clients in attaining and maintaining independence. 

This 6-week program provides students with intensive training emphasizing patient care, nutrition, safety, anatomy and physiology, asepsis, body mechanics, and rehabilitation and restoration care.

In the Nursing Assistant program, you’ll learn:

  • Basic Nursing Skills
  • Measuring Vital Signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate)
  • Intake & Output Measurement
  • Recordation of care 
  • Client Interaction to Ensure Emotional, Social, and Mental Healthcare Needs are Met
  • How to Assist Clients in Attaining and Maintaining Independence, Respect the Person’s Rights, Privacy, and Confidentiality, and Respond Properly to Emergencies

Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are prepared to take the state licensing exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level healthcare positions and/or to pursue additional training and opportunities in the field of healthcare.

Central Coast College’s Nursing Assistant program can be completed in as few as 6 weeks!

Central Coast College’s Nursing Assistant program is offered in-person. Students learn in the classroom, completing hands-on training in labs on campus. All students also gain valuable experience through an externship.

Many of Central Coast College’s Nursing Assistant graduates go to work in nursing homes and in private homes for in-home supportive service agencies. Our Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services and comprehensive job placement assistance.

In Central Coast College’s Nursing Assistant program, you’ll gain real-world skills to work as a nursing assistant. From measuring vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate) to assisting clients in attaining and maintaining independence and responding properly to emergency situations. Our hands-on training prepares you for the tasks employers are hiring for, so you can step confidently into your healthcare career. Graduates of Central Coast College’s Nursing Assistant program receive a Certificate of Completion.

To hold your seat in the course, you’ll need to submit the following additional documentation to our admissions team to complete the enrollment process, prior to the mandatory orientation:

    • Proof of age – must be at least 18 years old
    • High School Diploma / GED
    • Proof of a physical exam (performed no more than 90 days prior to class start date)
    • Fingerprints done by Live Scan
    • TB test results
    • Flu shot
    • Covid Vaccination
    • Hepatitis B Series
