Healthcare workers are essential, and medical assistants are vital to our healthcare system. Medical assistants work directly with both patients and other healthcare workers, providing critical support and assistance to nurses, physicians, and doctors. As a medical assistant you may work in doctor’s offices, hospitals, medical clinics, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings. These important healthcare workers are in high demand across the country, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics projects this field will continue to grow over the 2020 – 2030 decade at an impressive rate of 18% annually. In this growing field, there are incredible opportunities for employment.

At Central Coast College, our Medical Assistant program provides students with the essential skills to be successful in every capacity of their future positions. Learning from dedicated, experienced instructors, students in CCC’s Medical Assistant program learn the practical skills they need to enter the job market with confidence. Students learn to perform both clinical and administrative tasks, including front office management, patient intake and preparing patients for procedures, measuring patients’ vital signs, administering medications and injections, and using the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Training modules teach medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology; diagnostic and treatment procedures, as well as medical office procedures and insurance billing. In addition to hands-on practice in supervised labs, students also receive real-world, on-the-job experience through an externship.

CCC’s Medical Assistant diploma program can be completed in as few as 46 weeks! Graduates of the program receive a Certificate of Completion, and are prepared to test for a nationally-recognized MA certification. Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared for entry-level positions as a Medical Assistant, Medical Records and Health Information Technician, Medical Secretary, or Reception and Information Clerk.
