Jasmin Valdez, Business Administrative Specialist (BAS) program

Jasmin, a student in Central Coast College’s Business Administrative Specialist (BAS) program, was nominated for the Featured Student Spotlight by her instructor, Kathleen Evans, due to her dedication to her schooling and her persistence even while facing challenges. When Jasmin didn’t pass two of her initial courses, she doubled down on her commitment and made her schooling a priority. It was her courage to persevere through these challenges that led Instructor Kathleen Evans to nominate her for the Student Spotlight. Evans says, Jasmin had the courage to persist in her chosen career choice… I emphasize courage. After a rough start, yet determined to complete her program, Jasmin decided “to get her stuff together” and commit herself to her education. She is currently heading her class while understanding, liking and applying her education to real-world situations.”

Guadalupe Valdez, Business Administrative Specialist (BAS) program

Guadalupe, also a student in CCC’s Business Administrative Specialist (BAS) program, is recognized in this Featured Student Spotlight due to her commitment to her schooling, her peer community, and her family. Guadalupe first began the BAS program two years ago, but then took time away in order to have a child. Of her decision to return to CCC to finish the BAS program, Guadalupe says, “I decided to make myself a priority in order to make a better life for both me and my daughter.” Instructor Kathleen Evans, acknowledged Guadalupe’s commitment to finish what she had started, saying, “She came back to finish the program and to make herself responsible for her college success.” Evans continued on to highlight Guadalupe’s qualities as a student, saying, “Lupe is an outstanding student, a team-player and a great communicator, never failing to help out a fellow student with constructive criticism and tutoring.”
